Understanding Psychodynamic/Psychodynamic Treatment

Those who are willing to do the hard work of examining the unsavory/unpleasant parts of themselves they have not wanted to know about (I.E. THE UNCONSCIOUS), through psychoadyamaic/psychoanalytic therapy usually experience relief and psychological growth

Although people are generally largely unaware of their unconscious mind, unconscious wishes/impulses can exert a profound influence causing repetitive negative behaviours, ruminating thoughts, depression or anxiety. These states can interfere with a person’s relationships, and the ability to work productively or find pleasure in living.

Psychodynamic therapy or psychoanalysis has a goal of helping a person get in touch what is unconscious.  Getting in touch with the unconscious can help a person gain a deeper understanding of how these unknown pressures impact everyday life and understanding why they have been compelled to behave/think in certain ways. New insights often help a person find better solutions to problems. With new insights comes psychological growth and new levels of maturity.

What one can expect in a psychoanalytic/psychodynamic session:

In a psychodynamic/psychoanalytic therapeutic setting, a person is encouraged to say anything that comes to mind and bring all feelings both positive and negative to the session. Patient and analyst will explore this material together to try to get a deeper understanding of the unconscious mind utilizing the techniques of talking, free association and dream analysis.
